Civil Engineering
The interesting thing about civil engineering is that it impacts largely on all aspects of our lives.
Civil engineers are the professionals that design and build the infrastructure of our modern-day world, such as stadiums, roads dams etc, and they ensure that essential and vital services are put in place in. Vital systems such as our electrical systems, water systems, dams, canals, bridges and buildings; these are all designed and build by our civil engineers.
Civil engineers are responsible for the design and also the maintenance of our airports railways ports and all our bridges, too.
Civil engineering is the oldest engineering after military engineering and this is broken up into various smaller disciplines; these include materials engineering, geotechnical engineering , environmental engineering and urban engineering to name a couple of the sub-disciplines that fall under the civil engineering umbrella.
Improving the living conditions of people and creating spaces for people to live in, therefore playing an integral in the upliftment of whole communities falls on the shoulders of civil engineers.
It is therefore imperative that in a democracy that a high standard of infrastructure and a high standard of design and building is available to all.
